  1. The book examines two sets of mother – daughter relationships. Does Laura’s relationship with her mother impact the relationship she has with Annie? Discuss the similarities and differences between the two sets of women.
  2. Why did Annie run away? What compels her to return to Maui? The book hints that Annie is slightly autistic. Does this impact her actions?
  3. Part of Paying the Price deals with Laura’s need to get answers from her ex-husband Frank about why their marriage failed. If this is her way of coping and letting go why does she climb back in bed with him?
